Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of major features from start to finish, collaborating closely with the design team from conception to launch.

• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.

• Assist team members by resolving technical challenges.

• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.

• Maintain shared components through thorough testing, documentation, and consolidation.

• Drive changes to team processes and methodologies.

• Minimize the need for manual intervention during release processes.

• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.

• Expand automated verification and advance testing earlier in the development cycle.

• Coordinate planning and prioritize tasks that necessitate decision-making.

• Define suitable review levels and approval criteria.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and development time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or extended background operations.

• Awareness of the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including the limitations of test coverage.

• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest evaluation of the effort required to achieve that.

• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging people to alter their work habits and managing the resulting friction.

• Insight into which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.

• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, not just those that enhanced your own efficiency.

• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal approach.

• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to elevating Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.

• A proactive attitude towards enhancing the application and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Completion of several technical interviews alongside an assessment on a real codebase.
