This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges by conducting investigations.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and streamline redundant implementations.
• Ensure that shared components remain tested, organized, and maintainable.
• Propel improvements to team workflows.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions to achieve accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Broaden automated verification and integrate testing earlier in the development process.
• Manage planning and prioritize tasks that necessitate decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Address critical challenges, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused projects and development time.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a background in leading a team or managing a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background operations.
• Knowledge of the significance of testing and strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your departure, along with a candid account of the effort it took to achieve that.
• Comfort in managing the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to adapt their workflows, and navigating the resulting challenges.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough reviews and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, rather than only your personal practices.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and a desire to advance Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond the given requirements.
• Strong communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an evaluation on a real codebase.
