This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Remove obstacles for engineers and investigate any stalled tasks.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and streamline redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components remain tested, organized, and easy to maintain.
• Lead improvements to team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Oversee planning and prioritize work that requires decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off stages.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical problems, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Assist early-career engineers with tasks focused on learning and development.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Acknowledgment of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest assessment of the effort it took to implement.
• Some familiarity with encouraging colleagues to alter their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes require thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that are actively utilized by your team.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined requirements.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (preferred).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (preferred).
• Participation in multiple technical interviews along with an assessment based on a real codebase.
