This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by identifying and resolving obstacles.
• Recognize reusable implementations and streamline shared components.
• Ensure shared code remains tested, organized, maintained, and consolidated.
• Propel improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Increase automated verification and advance testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that demand decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and ownership for approvals.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering, while effectively communicating team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with impactful projects and dedicated learning opportunities.
• Write and review code while remaining actively involved in development.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining engaged in hands-on tasks.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background tasks.
• A deep understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including the limitations of what can be tested.
• Experience in introducing processes or practices that become integrated within a team.
• Comfort in encouraging colleagues to adapt their workflows and managing any resulting challenges.
• Capability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not.
• A history of developing tools and features utilized by the broader team.
• Ability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a strong desire to enhance Android UI/UX.
• Self-motivated to improve the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is advantageous.
