This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.
• Take full ownership of significant Android core product features from inception to release, working closely alongside the Design team.
• Engage in coding by writing and reviewing code while actively managing features.
• Oversee, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and provide constructive technical feedback.
• Assist engineers by identifying and resolving technical obstacles.
• Recognize reusable team solutions and streamline duplicate implementations.
• Maintain shared components to ensure they are tested, clear, and reusable.
• Foster enhancements to team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Move verification earlier in the process by expanding automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that requires decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, highlighting team constraints early.
• Manage critical issues and take ownership of feature releases.
• Provide nightly builds to the QA team.
• Mentor early-career engineers with meaningful projects and learning opportunities.
• Collaborate within a flat, distributed organization that develops text-to-speech products utilized by over 50 million users.
• Minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding of the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including aspects that may not be testable.
• An example of a contribution to a team that continued to persist after the candidate ceased advocating for it, with an honest account of its implementation cost.
• Comfortable asking colleagues to change their workflows and managing any resulting friction.
• Ability to assess which changes require substantial review based on system behavior.
• Proven history of creating solutions that are used by the rest of the team.
• Capability to explain how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and a desire to enhance Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivated to improve the app and codebase beyond basic specifications.
• Excellent communication abilities.
• Bonus: Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects.
