This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical obstacles.
• Standardize effective solutions for use across the team.
• Maintain shared components to ensure they are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Recognize when the team needs to adjust its workflows and lead those transitions.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Promote early verification by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints promptly.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Support early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and development time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Strong understanding of the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including areas that cannot be covered by tests.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your advocacy ended, along with an honest assessment of the effort involved.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading colleagues to adapt their workflows and managing the resultant friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of building tools that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal methods.
• Product design intuition, empathy for users, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications provided.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment of a real codebase.
