This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Oversee, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by removing technical obstacles.
• Identify and integrate reusable implementations across the team.
• Ensure the shared codebase is well-tested, clear, and reusable.
• Enhance team processes and assess when changes to the workflow are necessary.
• Minimize the manual effort needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Lead planning sessions and direct the team's focus on decision-making tasks.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with development-oriented tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of significant features while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to the team that was sustained after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the effort it took to achieve this.
• Comfort in navigating the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that are utilized by the team, rather than solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal contributions.
• Intuition in product design, empathy for users, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
