This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles by directly investigating issues.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for proper releases.
• Address recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification left and broaden automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning focused on unresolved tasks.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Provide learning opportunities for early-career engineers.
• Write and review code, taking a hands-on approach to feature ownership.
• Participate in technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment during the recruitment process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be covered by tests.
• An example of something you implemented within a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid account of the costs associated with achieving that.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging changes in how others work and managing the subsequent friction.
• An understanding of which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that are genuinely utilized by your team, rather than only those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not solely your personal contributions.
• Intuition in product design, user empathy, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond initial specifications.
• A self-driven approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews, along with an assessment of a real codebase.
