This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Take full ownership of significant features from conception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review code submissions and offer constructive feedback.
• Remove obstacles for engineers and address team challenges.
• Standardize reusable solutions across the team to enhance efficiency.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying systems.
• Enhance automated verification processes and shift testing to earlier phases.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish review criteria and define approval responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing meaningful projects and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running processes.
• Recognize the significance of tests and know how to effectively write them, including understanding their limitations.
• A successful implementation you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the efforts required to achieve it.
• Comfort in addressing the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in workflow and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Successful completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment of a real codebase.
