This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize successful implementations for team-wide application.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive improvements to team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Implement left-shift verification and broaden automated checks.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for quality assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful assignments and dedicated learning time.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant feature while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running processes.
• Familiarity with the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including aspects that may not be testable.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that continued after you moved on, along with a candid assessment of the effort involved in achieving it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough reviews and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven record of creating solutions that your team actively utilized, not just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal interactions.
• An intuitive sense for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is explicitly described in the specifications.
