This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for crucial features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Remove obstacles for team members and address technical challenges.
• Identify solutions that can be reused across the team and eliminate redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, clear, and maintainable.
• Enhance team processes and improve working methods.
• Minimize manual interventions needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Promote early verification through increased automated testing.
• Lead planning sessions and direct team focus on unresolved decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and determine necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical problems, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for quality assurance.
• Assist early-career engineers with tasks geared towards learning and personal development.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Comprehension of the importance of testing and how to approach writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an idea you introduced to a team that remained effective after your involvement ceased, along with an honest account of the costs associated with its implementation.
• Some familiarity with the challenging aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes require extensive review and which do not, supported by a rationale based on the system’s functionality.
• A proven history of building tools and features that your team actively utilized, beyond just those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• A knack for product design, user empathy, and a determination to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the initial specifications.
• A proactive attitude towards enhancing the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Outstanding communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews plus an evaluation on a real codebase.
