This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to launch, working closely with Design throughout the entire process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize and unify shared implementations within the team.
• Enhance team processes and determine when adjustments to working methods are necessary.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and move testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Facilitate planning sessions to ensure team focus on outstanding decisions.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off duties.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing them with meaningful projects and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on test coverage.
• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that continued post your involvement, along with a candid account of the effort involved.
• Some familiarity with guiding team members to alter their working methods and managing the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, backed by an understanding of the system's functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that your team has actively utilized.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, empathy for users, and a desire to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on a practical codebase.
