This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by resolving technical obstacles.
• Identify reusable implementations and standardize them across the team.
• Maintain shared code that is tested, clear, and well-organized.
• Lead modifications to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Address recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Increase automated verification prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development time.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major component while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including recognizing what cannot be covered by them.
• A noteworthy contribution you made to a team that persisted even after you moved on, along with an honest assessment of the effort involved.
• Some comfort with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the ensuing friction.
• An ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system’s functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actually utilized, rather than just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents, not merely your personal approach.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Excellent communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews, in addition to an assessment on a real codebase.
