This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by troubleshooting and resolving issues.
• Streamline shared implementations and create standard solutions for the team.
• Ensure the maintenance of well-tested, clear, and reusable shared components.
• Pinpoint and implement enhancements to team workflows.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering, proactively addressing team constraints.
• Manage critical challenges, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing learning opportunities and dedicated development time.
• Write and review code, actively taking ownership of features.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or ownership of major components while maintaining a hands-on approach.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• Recognize the significance of testing and how to effectively approach writing tests, including limitations in coverage.
• Proven experience in introducing processes or practices that remain in place post-implementation.
• Comfort with encouraging changes in workflows and managing any resulting challenges.
• Capability to discern which changes necessitate extensive reviews based on system performance.
• History of developing solutions that are actively utilized by the team.
• Ability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Possess product design intuition, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• Self-motivated to elevate the app and codebase beyond specified requirements.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus.
