This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
β’ Take ownership of major features from start to finish, collaborating closely with the design team from the decision phase through to release.
β’ Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for critical features.
β’ Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
β’ Assist engineers in overcoming technical challenges and obstacles.
β’ Standardize successful implementations for team-wide application.
β’ Ensure shared components are tested, well-organized, and consolidated.
β’ Lead initiatives to improve team processes.
β’ Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
β’ Tackle recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.
β’ Shift verification processes to the left and broaden automated checks.
β’ Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
β’ Establish review criteria and ownership for approvals.
β’ Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
β’ Manage critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
β’ Support early-career engineers with development time and learning-oriented tasks.
β’ Write and review code while taking hands-on ownership of features.
β’ Complete technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment as part of the interview process.
β’ Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
β’ Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
β’ Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
β’ Understanding the significance of tests and effective strategies for writing them, including limitations.
β’ An example of something you introduced to a team that endured after you ceased advocating for it, along with an honest evaluation of the effort required to achieve that.
β’ Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging colleagues to modify their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
β’ An informed perspective on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's behavior.
β’ A proven history of building features that your team actively utilized, not just those that enhanced your personal efficiency.
β’ The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual approach.
β’ Intuition for product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications provided.
β’ A self-motivated drive to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
β’ Strong communication skills.
β’ Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
β’ Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
β’ Participation in several technical interviews and an assessment on a real codebase.
