This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Take full ownership of significant features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for crucial features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to improve the codebase.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Identify reusable implementations and standardize practices across the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing the underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by expanding automated checks.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Define review criteria and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Address critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful projects and dedicated learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a background in team leadership or ownership of significant features while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the importance of testing, including strategies for writing effective tests and acknowledging areas that cannot be tested.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve that.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role, such as encouraging changes in workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven track record of developing solutions that your team actively uses, beyond just improving personal efficiency.
• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal contributions.
• Strong product design instincts, empathy for users, and a determination to push Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment of a real codebase.
