This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming technical challenges.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and merge redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, clear, and well-maintained.
• Initiate changes to team processes as necessary.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during proper releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Advance verification processes by broadening automated checks.
• Lead planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Determine the depth of reviews and the areas that require sign-off.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while highlighting team constraints early in the process.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with suitably challenging tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or ownership of significant features while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and sustaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Comprehensive understanding of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including areas that cannot be covered.
• An example of a successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in how colleagues work and managing the resulting friction.
• An insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, supported by the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that are utilized by the team, beyond just improving your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your own methods.
• An intuitive sense for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A self-driven approach to improving the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Submission of a portfolio and LinkedIn profile with the application.
• Participation in several technical interviews, along with an assessment on a real codebase.
