This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist engineers by troubleshooting and resolving stalled tasks.
• Create standardized implementations for the entire team to utilize.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize manual intervention required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification leftward and broaden automated testing.
• Conduct planning sessions aimed at addressing unresolved decisions.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical incidents, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through work that emphasizes learning and allocates time for skill development.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and an approach to writing them, including limitations.
• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve that.
• Comfort with the more challenging aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team genuinely uses, rather than solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, beyond personal experiences.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Participation in several technical interviews, along with an assessment of a real codebase.
