This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to peers.
• Assist team members by troubleshooting technical challenges.
• Standardize effective implementations for team utilization.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Spearhead modifications to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by enhancing foundational systems.
• Broaden automated verification and shift testing earlier in the process.
• Conduct planning sessions to prioritize tasks requiring decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and guidance.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Recognize the significance of testing and how to approach writing tests, including understanding limitations.
• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, accompanied by an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading colleagues to change their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than just those that increased your personal efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual contributions.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on a real codebase.
