This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Ensure that shared code is tested, clear, well-maintained, and consolidated.
• Propel changes to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention required for accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification left and broaden automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that necessitates decision-making.
• Establish suitable review requirements and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Offer learning opportunities to early-career engineers.
• Write and review code while leading the team in feature ownership.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including time spent leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background processes.
• Understanding the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including limitations.
• An example of something you introduced to a team that endured after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the costs involved.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging team members to change their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require thorough reviews and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of constructing items that the rest of your team actively utilized, not merely those that improved your efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, as well as your personal contributions.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to enhance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to improving the application and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
