This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Maintain and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles by investigating issues directly.
• Standardize reusable solutions across the team to improve efficiency.
• Maintain clearly documented, tested, and consolidated shared components.
• Lead efforts to improve team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes earlier in the workflow by increasing automated checks before QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on work that requires decisions.
• Identify appropriate review levels and sign-off requirements.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by assigning meaningful tasks and allowing time for learning.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership in a team or ownership of a major project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Understanding the significance of tests and how to effectively write them, including limitations on coverage.
• A notable contribution you made to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest evaluation of what it took to achieve that.
• Comfort in addressing the less popular aspects of the job, such as prompting changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than just those that improved your own efficiency.
• Capacity to articulate your team's interaction with AI agents, not just your personal experiences.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
