This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Remove obstacles for team members and investigate technical challenges.
• Standardize solutions for collective use within the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Enhance team processes and determine when workflow modifications are necessary.
• Minimize the manual effort required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by altering fundamental systems.
• Shift verification to earlier stages by increasing automated testing.
• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Define suitable review levels and approval criteria.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Assist early-career team members with work focused on learning and allocate time for their development.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with a background in leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on what can be tested.
• An example of a successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your departure, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits among peers and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough reviews and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing tools that your team actively utilized, not just those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal methods.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A strong drive to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
• Completion of several technical interviews plus an assessment on an actual codebase.
