This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the decision-making and release phases.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming challenging issues through investigation.
• Standardize successful implementations for the entire team’s benefit.
• Ensure the maintenance of well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Lead initiatives to evolve team processes and work methodologies.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying foundational systems.
• Advance verification processes earlier and broaden automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions and focus the team's attention on unresolved tasks.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor and support the development of early-career engineers.
• Actively participate in coding and code review while leading the core Android product team.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or owning a significant product surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and sustaining background audio or similar long-running background tasks.
• Knowledge of the significance of testing and strategies for writing tests, including limitations.
• A successful initiative you implemented in a team that continued after your involvement, and a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging team members to adjust their workflows, along with managing any resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, supported by an understanding of system functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that are utilized by your team, rather than solely focusing on personal efficiency.
• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual contributions.
• Strong product design instincts, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to advance the application and codebase beyond what is defined in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Submission of portfolio and LinkedIn links is requested with the application.
