This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming technical barriers by investigating and resolving issues.
• Identify reusable solutions and unify shared components.
• Ensure shared code is well-tested, clear, and reliable.
• Propel enhancements in team processes and development methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying foundational systems.
• Shift verification processes left by broadening automated testing.
• Lead planning efforts and direct team focus on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with valuable tasks and time for learning.
• Conduct technical interviews and assess candidates on a real codebase during the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or ownership of major projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in deploying and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a contribution that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to implement it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work practices and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that benefited the entire team, beyond just increasing individual efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, beyond your personal approach.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience with multiple technical interviews and an evaluation on a real codebase.
