This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Remove obstacles for engineers and address technical challenges.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and streamline redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and reusable.
• Lead initiatives to enhance team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying foundational systems.
• Advance verification processes by shifting them earlier in the development cycle and expanding automated testing.
• Facilitate planning sessions and focus the team on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and define ownership for approvals.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning opportunities and dedicated development time.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including roles that involved leading a team or managing a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of testing and strategies for writing tests, including understanding what cannot be tested.
• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that remained effective after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the efforts required to implement it.
• Comfort in addressing the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work practices and managing the resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• Proven experience in developing solutions that are utilized by the team, rather than solely those that enhance personal efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual interactions.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
