Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of major Android core-product features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the Design team.

• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for crucial features.

• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.

• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and resolving ongoing technical challenges.

• Identify and unify shared implementations for team utilization.

• Enhance team processes and assess when modifications to workflows are necessary.

• Minimize the manual interventions required for successful releases.

• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.

• Lead planning efforts and establish suitable review and sign-off protocols.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.

• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds to the QA team.

• Mentor and support the development of early-career engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, which includes leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.

• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of what they can cover.

• An example of an initiative you implemented that persisted after your involvement decreased, along with a candid assessment of the effort it took to establish it.

• Comfort in encouraging changes in work practices and managing the associated challenges.

• Insight on which changes warrant thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.

• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized.

• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.

• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a determination to elevate Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.

• A self-driven approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond the initial specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Successful completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on an actual codebase.
