This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to release, collaborating closely with Design.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming technical challenges.
• Identify reusable implementations and standardize them within the team.
• Maintain well-tested, concise, and integrated shared components.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the manual effort required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions and direct the team's focus on unresolved tasks.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering to highlight team constraints early.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused assignments and development time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other forms of long-running background tasks.
• Recognize the significance of tests and know how to approach writing them, including understanding what cannot be tested.
• A specific initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with encouraging colleagues to alter their workflows and managing any resulting challenges.
• An understanding of which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• Proven history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized.
• Capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• A strong sense of product design intuition, user empathy, and a drive to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the basic requirements.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus.
