This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch alongside the design team.
• Oversee, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Write code, review pull requests, and provide constructive feedback.
• Help engineers overcome obstacles and directly investigate issues.
• Standardize successful implementations for the benefit of the entire team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive changes to team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Address recurring challenges by refining underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes earlier through increased automated checks.
• Facilitate planning and focus team efforts on unresolved decisions.
• Define suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Support early-career engineers by offering learning opportunities.
• Actively contribute as a Team Lead for Speechify's Android text-to-speech application.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or owning a significant feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including limitations.
• Experience in introducing practices or systems that are adopted by the team.
• Comfort in asking team members to adjust their workflows while managing any resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not.
• A history of creating solutions utilized by the broader team.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond initial specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
