This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize solutions across the team and eliminate redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, well-documented, and reusable.
• Lead enhancements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during proper releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and determine approval responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused projects and development time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Strong understanding of the significance of tests and how to effectively write them, including limitations.
• A successful initiative you implemented in a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest reflection on the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to change their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that were genuinely utilized by the team, rather than solely enhancing personal efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive drive to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
