This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to improve code quality.
• Assist team members by investigating and resolving technical challenges.
• Identify reusable implementations and standardize them across the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Drive changes to team processes and working methods.
• Minimize manual involvement required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing the foundational setup.
• Promote early verification by boosting automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions so the team can concentrate on decision-driven tasks.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints promptly.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with valuable learning experiences.
• Conduct technical interviews and evaluate candidates through a real-codebase assessment during the interview process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Deep understanding of the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a contribution you made to a team that persisted after you ceased advocating for it, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading others to alter their work habits and managing the ensuing friction.
• Insight on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team found valuable, not just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal methods.
• Strong product design intuition, empathy for users, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience with open source Android projects is advantageous.
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus.
