This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Remove obstacles for engineers and address team challenges.
• Identify reusable solutions and consolidate shared components effectively.
• Ensure shared code is tested, clear, and easily maintainable.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes to the left and broaden automated checks.
• Manage planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Address critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing learning opportunities.
• Write, review, and actively own code for features.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles or ownership of major components while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and methodologies for writing them, including limitations.
• A successful initiative you introduced that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading colleagues to modify their work habits and managing the ensuing friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes demand extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that are genuinely utilized by your team, not just those that enhance your own speed.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews plus an evaluation on a real codebase.
