This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer developmental insights.
• Assist engineers by resolving ongoing issues that impede progress.
• Advocate for reusable solutions across the team and streamline redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and reusable.
• Spearhead modifications to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational systems.
• Shift verification earlier in the process through automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions that concentrate on decision-making tasks.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical concerns, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing them with meaningful assignments and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• Recognize the significance of testing and possess knowledge of how to write effective tests, including the limitations of testing.
• An example of a contribution you made to a team that continued to be utilized after your influence waned, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role, such as encouraging colleagues to adjust their work habits and managing the associated challenges.
• A perspective on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that are genuinely utilized by your team, rather than merely enhancing your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
• Completion of several technical interviews alongside an evaluation of a real codebase.
