This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Facilitate the resolution of obstacles for team members by directly investigating issues.
• Standardize effective implementations for team-wide application.
• Maintain shared code by ensuring thorough testing, documentation, and consolidation.
• Propel improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying configuration.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks requiring decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers and offer learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including a leadership role or ownership of a major project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in deploying and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
• A successful initiative you implemented within a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve that.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role, such as encouraging changes in work habits and managing the subsequent friction.
• Ability to discern which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that are actively utilized by your team, beyond merely enhancing personal efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond personal methodologies.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
