This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Take full ownership of major features from conception to release, collaborating closely with the design team.
• Oversee, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by resolving technical obstacles.
• Standardize successful implementations for collective team utilization.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive improvements to team processes.
• Minimize manual interventions required for accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Enhance automated verification and shift testing earlier within the development cycle.
• Conduct planning and prioritize tasks that necessitate decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and define ownership for approvals.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and development opportunities.
• Minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background processes.
• A solid grasp of the importance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of what can be tested.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that continued after your involvement ceased, along with a candid account of the costs associated with it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits among colleagues and managing the resulting friction.
• An opinion on which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, supported by an understanding of system functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized, not merely those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual methods.
• An intuitive sense for product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of multiple technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
