This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Oversee, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist team members by troubleshooting technical challenges.
• Standardize effective solutions for use across the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clearly defined, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Amplify automated verification and integrate testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks requiring decision-making.
• Establish appropriate levels of review and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, effectively communicating team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with appropriately challenging tasks and opportunities for learning.
• Participate in several technical interviews and a hands-on assessment of a real codebase during the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or taking ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• A noteworthy contribution you made to a team that was sustained after you moved on, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to change their work habits and navigating the resulting challenges.
• An understanding of which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the functionality of the system.
• A proven history of developing solutions that are actually utilized by your team, rather than just those that enhance your personal efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual contributions.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the initial specifications.
• Initiative to enhance the application and codebase beyond the provided specifications.
