This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles by investigating unresolved issues.
• Standardize team implementations and streamline duplicated shared components.
• Ensure that shared components are well-tested, clear, and maintainable.
• Identify and execute enhancements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and shift testing earlier in the development timeline.
• Conduct planning focused on outstanding decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, representing team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, with time spent leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, including an honest evaluation of the cost to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resultant friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that your team actually utilized, not just those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal experience.
• A sense of product design intuition, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
