This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by troubleshooting and resolving any work that has stalled.
• Standardize reusable solutions within the team and streamline redundant implementations.
• Ensure that shared components are well-tested, clear, and easy to maintain.
• Recognize when the team needs to adapt its processes and lead those transformations.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Promote early verification by enhancing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks requiring decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions regarding Product, Design, and Engineering, and proactively communicate team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with impactful assignments and opportunities for learning.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and the methodology for writing them, including aspects that cannot be covered by tests.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve that result.
• Some comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work practices and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that your team genuinely utilized, rather than just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team integrates AI agents into its workflow, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a determination to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive attitude towards enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Strong communication abilities.
• Successful completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
