This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize and unify shared implementations across the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and reusable shared components.
• Lead efforts to enhance team processes and workflows.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification to earlier stages and expand automated testing.
• Organize planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish appropriate review levels and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, effectively communicating team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, take responsibility for feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by assigning meaningful tasks and providing learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of testing and the methodology for writing tests, including areas that may be untestable.
• An example of a practice or tool you introduced to the team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest account of the effort required to implement it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, supported by a clear understanding of the system's functionality.
• A proven record of developing solutions that are actually utilized by your team, rather than solely focusing on efficiency enhancements.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just how you personally interact with them.
• A sense for product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond the specifications provided.
• Strong communication skills.
