This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer meaningful feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles by investigating stalled tasks.
• Standardize solutions for team-wide implementation.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Lead improvements to team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes to the left and broaden automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Define review criteria and ownership of approvals.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Support early-career engineers with appropriately challenging tasks and dedicated learning time.
• Write and review code, taking hands-on ownership of features.
• Conduct a codebase assessment and articulate technical reasoning during interviews.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including areas that cannot be covered by tests.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that continued after your involvement, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and accepting the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of constructing solutions that are genuinely utilized by your team, rather than just enhancing your own efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual contributions.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and a drive to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews, along with an assessment on an actual codebase.
