This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team.
• Oversee, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable implementations throughout the team.
• Ensure shared components are tested, clear, and well-organized.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure correct releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining the underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and integrate testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Manage planning efforts and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and define approval responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Address critical issues, manage feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning-focused tasks and development opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with a background in team leadership or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience with launching and maintaining background audio or similar long-running background processes.
• Awareness of the significance of tests and approaches to writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest assessment of its implementation costs.
• Comfort with the challenging aspects of the role: encouraging team members to alter their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that are utilized by your team, rather than solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual contributions.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to elevating Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience with open source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is considered a plus.
