This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive technical feedback.
• Assist engineers by identifying and resolving challenging issues.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and streamline redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, organized, maintained, and consolidated.
• Initiate changes to team processes as necessary.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Shift verification to earlier stages by broadening automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions and focus the team’s attention on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints promptly.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with meaningful projects and dedicated learning time.
• Write and review Android code while taking responsibility for core product features.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles or ownership of significant projects while remaining actively involved.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a change you implemented that became ingrained in the team after you stepped back, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve that.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system’s functionality.
• A proven record of developing solutions that your team actively utilizes, rather than just those that enhance your own efficiency.
• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal interactions.
• Strong product design instincts, user empathy, and motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews plus an evaluation on a real codebase.
