This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Italy.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance the reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Remove obstacles for engineers by identifying and resolving issues.
• Recognize reusable implementations and standardize them for team utilization.
• Sustain shared components through rigorous testing, comprehensive documentation, and consolidation.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention in order to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Lead planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while highlighting team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing them with meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for drafting them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• A contribution you introduced to a team that remained effective after your active involvement ended, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve this.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits among colleagues and managing the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which modifications require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing tools that your team genuinely utilized, not just solutions that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal methods.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond mere specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Strong communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
