Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features from inception to release in collaboration with the design team.

• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.

• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and investigate any stalled tasks.

• Standardize reusable solutions throughout the team.

• Maintain clear, tested, and consolidated shared components.

• Propel enhancements to team processes.

• Minimize the need for manual intervention in ensuring proper releases.

• Resolve recurring issues through foundational setup modifications.

• Broaden automated verification and integrate testing earlier in the development cycle.

• Facilitate planning sessions and focus the team on decisions that require action.

• Define requirements for reviews and responsibilities for sign-off.

• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers with meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.

• Awareness of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.

• An example of a practice you introduced to a team that became established even after your involvement diminished, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.

• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.

• Insights into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.

• A history of creating solutions that are utilized by your team, rather than only those that enhance your own efficiency.

• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, extending beyond personal contributions.

• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a desire to enhance Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.

• Initiative to advance the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Completion of several technical interviews along with an evaluation on a real codebase.
