This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.
• Take full ownership of significant Android product features from conception to release, collaborating closely with Design.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Write code, review pull requests, and offer developmental insights.
• Actively remove obstacles for engineers and resolve team challenges hands-on.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Maintain clear, consolidated, and thoroughly tested shared components.
• Drive improvements in team processes and working methodologies.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.
• Expand automated verification processes and advance testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Define review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while identifying team constraints early.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning-oriented tasks and development time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and approaches to writing them, including aspects that may not be testable.
• Proven experience in introducing practices or changes that have been sustained post-implementation.
• Comfort in prompting changes in workflows and managing any resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not.
• A history of building solutions that the rest of the team effectively utilizes.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX.
• Self-motivated to improve the app and codebase beyond initial specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience with open source Android projects is a plus.
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is advantageous.
• Participation in several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
