This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.
• Take full ownership of significant Android features alongside the design team, managing the process from initial decisions to final release.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and investigate team challenges.
• Identify reusable implementations and streamline shared components.
• Maintain a well-tested, clear, and unified shared codebase.
• Propel improvements in team processes.
• Minimize manual interventions necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes leftward and expand automated testing.
• Conduct planning sessions aimed at unresolved decisions.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical incidents, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor junior team members.
• Complete multiple technical interviews along with a practical assessment on a real codebase during the recruitment process.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles or ownership of significant surfaces while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and the methodology for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an innovation you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the cost of implementation.
• Comfort in advocating for changes in work practices while managing any resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized.
• Proficiency in articulating how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a passion for advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Submission of portfolio links and LinkedIn profile is required with the application.
• Completion of several technical interviews, in addition to an assessment on a real codebase.
• Experience with open source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus.
