This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the Design team.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Identify and standardize solutions for use across the team.
• Keep shared components well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Enhance team processes and propose workflow improvements.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification to earlier stages and broaden automated testing prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on outstanding decisions.
• Establish appropriate levels of review and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams while proactively identifying team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including time spent leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Knowledge of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of coverage.
• An example of a process you implemented that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort in advocating for changes in team workflows and navigating the associated challenges.
• A perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• Proven history of creating solutions that are actively utilized by your team.
• Capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond established specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the given requirements.
• Strong communication skills.
• Submission of a portfolio and LinkedIn profile with the application is required.
• Experience with open source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus but not mandatory.
