This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Take ownership of significant Android core product features from concept through to release in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Conduct reviews of pull requests and provide constructive development feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating complex issues to remove obstacles.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and consolidate redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and reusable.
• Propel enhancements to team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification earlier in the process and expand automated checks prior to nightly QA builds.
• Facilitate planning so the team can concentrate on work requiring decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints effectively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career team members by providing meaningful work and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or overseeing a major product surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
• Evidence of an initiative introduced to a team that continued to exist after the candidate ceased promoting it, along with an honest assessment of its impact.
• Comfort in requesting changes in how people work and managing any resulting friction.
• Capability to discern which changes require extensive review and which can proceed without it, based on system behavior.
• Proven history of building solutions that are utilized by the rest of the team.
• Ability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a drive to enhance Android UI/UX beyond set specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond established requirements.
• Strong communication skills.
• Inclusion of portfolio links and LinkedIn profile with the application.
• Contributions to open source Android projects or experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS are advantageous.
• Fully distributed work environment.
