Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant Android core-product features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the Design team.

• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Write code, review pull requests, and offer developmental insights.

• Assist engineers by diagnosing and resolving technical challenges.

• Standardize reusable solutions and merge duplicated implementations.

• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and reusable.

• Drive enhancements to team processes and working methodologies.

• Minimize manual interventions required for successful releases.

• Address chronic issues by refining underlying systems.

• Shift verification earlier in the process and increase automated checks prior to QA.

• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.

• Establish review criteria and sign-off procedures.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while conveying team constraints.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers with impactful work and opportunities for learning.

• Write and maintain practical Android code.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant component while remaining hands-on.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.

• Understanding the significance of tests and the methodology for writing them, including limitations on coverage.

• Experience introducing a concept to a team that persisted after the candidate stopped advocating for it, including a candid assessment of its impact.

• Comfort in requesting changes from colleagues and managing the resulting challenges.

• Ability to discern which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system behavior.

• Proven track record of building solutions that are actively utilized by the team.

• Capability to articulate how the team interacts with AI agents.

• Intuition in product design and empathy for users.

• Exceptional communication abilities.

• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond initial specifications.

• Participation in several technical interviews and a real-codebase evaluation.
