Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of major features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.

• Assist engineers by resolving stalled tasks.

• Recognize and advocate for reusable solutions across the team.

• Ensure shared code remains tested, clear, maintained, and consolidated.

• Spearhead improvements to team processes and methodologies.

• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying foundational systems.

• Shift verification processes earlier in the development cycle and broaden automated checks.

• Organize planning meetings to direct the team's focus on decision-making tasks.

• Establish review criteria and determine approval responsibilities.

• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering, proactively addressing team constraints.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for quality assurance.

• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful projects and dedicated learning opportunities.

• Write code, review others' code, and take a hands-on approach to feature ownership.

• Contribute to technical interviews and participate in a real-codebase assessment process.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of significant features while remaining hands-on.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other continuous background tasks.

• Awareness of the significance of tests and the methods for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.

• A notable contribution you made to a team that continued to be utilized after your involvement, along with an honest evaluation of the effort required to implement it.

• Comfort in encouraging changes in working methods and managing the associated friction.

• Insight into which changes require thorough reviews and which do not, based on the system's functionality.

• Proven history of developing solutions that are utilized by your team, not just those that enhance your own productivity.

• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal approach.

• A sense of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to elevating Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.

• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Bonus: Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects.

• Bonus: Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.
