This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Take full ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by removing obstacles and investigating any work that has stalled.
• Standardize reusable solutions and merge duplicated implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, well-documented, maintained, and consolidated.
• Optimize team processes and identify when modifications are necessary.
• Minimize manual interventions required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and facilitate nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with a focus on learning and development opportunities.
• Write, review, and take ownership of Android code and features while guiding team execution.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major project while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Acknowledgment of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including what cannot be covered.
• An example of an initiative you implemented within a team that remained effective after your involvement ended, along with a candid assessment of the efforts required to achieve that outcome.
• Some familiarity with encouraging changes in work habits and managing the subsequent friction.
• Insight on which modifications require extensive review and which can proceed with minimal oversight, based on system functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that are actively utilized by your team.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or Node.js (bonus).
